Their first invite to Paris Fashion Week was a watershed moment for the brand.

Victoria Beckham founded her clothing brand in 2008, but up until last week was yet to be invited to showcase her designs at Paris Fashion Week. Taking place on the Friday afternoon, her acceptance to the most exclusive, hallowed, fashion ground marked an important moment for the brand.

“It’s a big deal for me to do a show in Paris. It’s been a dream, and therefore the collection has to reflect that,” Beckham said, presenting a collection which felt a little different from the brand’s previous designs. The show, held in the cloisters of the church within Val-de-Grâce — the military complex where Yves Saint Laurent was hospitalized after his conscription breakdown, was more dramatic than we are used to from the brand. The shift in setting was a sign of what was to come — feminine pastels and floaty dresses turned fetishistic by skin-coloured latex underlayers.

Its unsurprising that we have seen such a shift in Beckham’s designs. After all, her London ateliers have been recently restructured in order to meet the high standards expected of Paris. The result of this restructure is most clearly seen in the highly complex, yet simple looking dresses that made up a large amount of the collection. It’s a definite upping of the standards from the brand, and a sign that they are looking to move up in the world of atelier.
